Nutrition Science

The Nutrition Science program focuses on nutrition, dietetics, and health promotion. The curriculum provides a strong foundation in the sciences while also developing a student’s communication skills, critical thinking, and teamwork and leadership abilities. The program fosters a global and holistic understanding of the interrelationships between human nutrition, wellness, and food. Students pursuing a degree in nutrition science learn to plan and conduct food service or nutritional programs that assist in the promotion of health and control disease. Graduates will progress to supervised practice, health- or science-related professions, graduate school, or a nutrition-related profession.

What You'll Study

You’ll study components of nutrition science, food science, lifecycle nutrition, sports nutrition, and medical nutrition therapy.

You can expect outstanding academic advising, student-centered learning, an experiential education, and engagement in scientific inquiry. This is also one of the only undergraduate Nutrition Science major programs taught within the Health at Every Size® (HAES) Framework.

Beyond the Classroom

Students will gain real-world experience through internships in settings such as hospitals, community centers, homeless shelters, and nursing homes as well as health and wellness centers.

After Graduation

The Nutrition Science program positions students to pursue a master’s degree in nutrition science (MS-DPD or other related fields).

Graduates who do not wish to pursue the Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RD/RDN) credential can pursue a variety of careers, including community nutritionist, dietetic technician, wellness health coach, nutrition scientist, or health education specialist. The Nutrition program provides an ideal background for athletes interested in pursuing sports dietetics.
